We headed in the morning to see a few more areas around Bagan. Our first stop was Khay Min Gha Phaya Temple. Bagan is amazing, everywhere you turn, you see these temples. It is a Unesco world Heritage site.
Every direction that you look there are pagodas and stupas. I stopped taking pictures because I thought how many pictures can you take? There are over 2,500 stupas and pagodas and they don’t all look the same.
As we left the ship, my travel companion (Jet) talked to one of the people selling T-shirts. When we got on the bus, I told him that he shouldn’t have engaged with her, she had him on her radar. She stood outside the bus holding up t-shirts and waving to him.
When we stopped at our first temple, I snapped a few pictures and then turned around only to see “Miu Miu” getting off the back of a motorcycle with bags of T-shirts. She ran to Jet and said “Remember me? I am Miu Miu!” Jet wasn’t taking to well to the level of aggressiveness nor was he doing all that will with his negotiations. I noticed that he had grown tired and was trying to get me to engage.
I have to give Miu Miu credit, she was a very good sales person. I spent months in Egypt where there were some of the most aggressive and relentless vendors and I typically ignore them. Miu was aggressive but she was very nice. She came over to me and we began to negotiate. She wasn’t going to move on the price and I knew what other people had paid for the shirts. At one point she said, “You are really handsome!” and I laughed and said you are such a good sales rep. Finally I told her what I would pay and for how many shirts but I was going to by them at the end of the day at the ship and only if she left us alone.
Miu Miu did and I bought the shirts and threw in a couple of bucks. When I heard others bargaining I laughed and reminded myself what I was spending a lot of time bickering over a dollar! I was still getting a good deal.
