It was up early and off to Pioneer Courthouse Square to take a tour of the countryside outside of Portland. I booked a Gray Line tour and I regret it. Gray Line had oversold the tour and there weren’t enough seats on the bus for the number of tickets sold. This was not a van but a bus. Most of the day was spent waiting to get off of the bus and waiting to get on the bus. Waiting for people who thought they deserved an extra five minutes. I wish I had booked a smaller or private tour.
That said, what we saw was beautiful. Although it was overcast, the views were stunning. Coming from Los Angeles (in the midst of a severe drought), I couldn’t get over how green everything is. I think moss grows on top of moss. It was a welcome change!
It was on to Latourell Falls.
And then it was on to Multnomah Falls
Absolutely stunning!
When we got back to Portland we did some walking around. I was quickly learning that my food destinations weren’t working out. I went to Portland thinking I would like to try one of the Pok Pok restaurants along with Vodoo donuts. We passed by Voodoo donuts the day before and there were at least 300 people in line that wrapped around the block. We passed by it again that afternoon and the line was just as long. I wanted one donut and I wasn’t about to wait a couple of hours for one. I wondered if the Pok Pok restaurants were the same way.
Surprisingly, most of the mobile restaurants closed by dinnertime and weren’t open Sundays. We tried a Vietnamese place that day and unfortunately it wasn’t that good. You pick a place and sometimes it is good and sometimes it isn’t. We stopped for Dessert in the hotel restaurant. That made for a mediocre dinner.
