Sunworld’s Ba Na Hills

The Golden Bridge

November 14th, 2024

The breakfast at the hotel is good but since it is a wellness spa, it lacks food items that are considered guilty pleasures.  I remind myself, after last night’s culinary tour, I should be eating a healthy breakfast.

After breakfast, we headed out to Sunworld’s Ba Na Hills, an amusement park sitting on top of a mountain not too far from Da Nang. I must admit, I wasn’t sure what to make of it, I have never seen anything like it before and kept wondering, was this park made for Instagram?

We boarded a cable car that currently holds the world record for the longest nonstop cable care ride in the world to the top of the mountain.  The ride up and down the mountain was probably the best part of the park.  The views were spectacular with beautiful views of the jungle and at times waterfalls.

After arriving, we crossed the golden bridge, probably one of the more photographed attractions at the park. Unfortunately, it was crowded, it was too crowded, and people were pushing.   It was difficult to get a decent picture of the bridge.   Ironically, the pictures and videos advertising the park always show the bridge as being empty or almost empty.   The experience was different from what was advertised.

As I mentioned, I struggled with understanding the purpose of the park.  There were different areas of the park such as the formal gardens, the French village, there was a German beer garden where the employees wore Dirndl and Lederhosen but besides taking selfies, there wasn’t much to do.

I also couldn’t help but notice that our guide wants to start the tours an hour later than what is on the itinerary, and he always wants to finish earlier.  He insisted on having lunch at a particular time and I realized it was because he was meeting another friend who was a tour guide.

Would I go back to this park?   The ride up the mountain was fascinating and it was fun walking around the park.  I am glad that I visited it, but would I make it a point to revisit it?  Probably not!

In Hoi An, they celebrate the full moon by lighting lanterns and setting them to float on the river.  When we got back to the room, we found two small lanterns with candles along with a card explaining the ritual. The act is supposed to believed to bring good luck and happiness.   We lit our lanterns and then set them in our pool.
